Tanalian set to begin quest for state titles

The Tanalian Lynx will begin their appearance at the 2017 ASAA Mixed-Six State Volleyball Championships today at Dimond High School in Anchorage. Tanalian will join 11 other teams from across the state in the tournament, which will run through Dec. 2.

The Southwest Conference champion, Tanalian will compete in pool play in the first day of the tournament. The Lynx will play Akiuk and Alakanuk in the Pool B bracket. The top two finishers in each of the pools will advance to the championship bracket on Friday.

The lowest-finishing team in each pool will advance to play in a single-elimination consolation bracket.

Tanalian is scheduled to tip off play beginning at 12:30 p.m. against the Akiuk Thunderbolts, who won the Alaska Coastal Conference crown. They will follow their matchup with Akiuk with a 2:10 p.m. showdown against Alakanuk, who won the Yukon River Conference title.

Point Hope's first pool matchup will be played at 6:20 p.m. against Hoonah, the Southeast Conference runner-up. The Harpooners will close out pool action at 7:10 p.m. with a bout against Nikolaevsk, the Denali Conference champion.

Noatak, Unalakleet and Kodiak ESS will compete in Pool A, while Aniak, Gustavus and Shishmaref will compete in Pool C. Pool D will comprise Nikolaevsk, Hoonah and Point Hope.

The Mixed-Six state championship game will be played Saturday.
