The Barrow Lady Whalers and Kotzebue Lady Huskies will try and nail down trips to the Class 3A state volleyball tournament this weekend when they travel to Bethel to compete in the 2017 Western Conference Volleyball Championships. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Warrior Dome at Bethel Regional High School.

Barrow heads into the tournament as the early favorite to claim the Western Conference title. The Lady Whalers head into the tournament with a sparkling 17-1 record. A perfect 7-0 in conference play during the regular season, the Lady Whalers are riding an 11-match win streak.

Kotzebue, which pounded out wins over Nome and Bethel this past weekend in Bethel, also have designs on the conference title. The Lady Huskies enter the tournament at 12-8 and with plenty of momentum. The KHS spikers have won six of their last seven matches.

Bethel and Nome will also be looking to grab one of the conference's two state berths. Bethel is 9-9 overall. Nome is 8-8.

The Class 3A state volleyball tournament will be held on Nov. 10-11 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
