Accidents leave one dead, four injured

A pair of automobile accidents in the Homer area last week left one woman dead and four others injured.

According to law enforcement reports, four individuals were injured in a single-car accident on June 6 when their vehicle left the roadway and crashed at approximately 8:40 p.m. near Kachemak Drive One of the passengers, a 29-year-old male, suffered severe injuries to the pelvic region and was medevaced from South Peninsula Hospital to an Anchorage hospital for care.

Also involved in the accident were 25- and 28-year-old males, and a 23-year-old female.

Members of the Homer Police Department, Homer Volunteer Fire Department and Kachemak Emergency Services responded to the incident.

On Friday, a 70-year-old Homer woman was killed in accident near Anchor Point when the vehicle she was driving rolled. Carol Lao, 70, died from injuries she sustained after being ejected from the 1998 Ford Escort.

Lao's next of kin were notified, and her body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Anchorage for autopsy.

The investigation into both accidents are still ongoing.
