Win or lose, the Aurora Conference will claim the small-school division's football bragging rights on Saturday afternoon in Palmer. Mainly because the conference's top two teams will be facing off for the 2016 state championship.

Aurora Conference champion Eielson and runner-up Houston both pounded out impressive victories this past weekend en route to advancing to the small-school state finals. Eielson ripped Peninsula Conference runner-up Nikiski by a 70-18 margin in their semifinal bout at Buck Nystrom Field in Fairbanks. Houston picked up a 44-6 romp over Seward, the Peninsula Conference champion.

Eielson will be looking to claim its third state title in the past five years when it takes to the field. The Ravens won titles in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Eielson, Houston, Valdez and Monroe Catholic join Barrow as members of the Aurora Conference. Barrow finished third in the conference standings but did not advance to the postseason.
