Outsider comes to Alaska to learn the truth about the Last Frontier — it's the storyline that's been followed countless times on mass-market television over the last several years.

This Sunday, it returns once again in the next episode of CNN's "United Shades of America," hosted by California comedian W. Kamau Bell.

Bell, whose show blends stand-up with travel, begins in Anchorage where he is pointed to Barrow as a place to find a truer Alaska, complete with polar bears and mushing.

Along the way he visits the local pool hall, rides along with a cab driver, and stops in at the Inupiat Heritage Center to get an idea of what life is like for the people who call the northernmost town home.

The show airs Sunday at 10 p.m. EST/PST on CNN.
