On Sept. 11, as part of an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of alcohol and illegal drugs in the North Slope Borough, a North Slope Police Department Detective in Anchorage seized six 750 ml bottles of Rich and Rare whiskey and 96 twelve-ounce cans of Budweiser beer being shipped to Barrow, Alaska from Anchorage.

Investigation determined that Cynthia Reilly, 31, was shipping the illegal alcohol to John Anashugak, 52, of Barrow in violation of the License or Permit Required statute. The estimated street value of the alcohol seized was $1,000. Charges are being filed against both Reilly and Anashugak, both charges being class C felonies and are punishable by up to five years in jail and a fine up to $50,000 on each count.
