OPINION: Letter to the Editor
March 8th 12:13 pm | Carl D. Jennings
Good Afternoon Reggie Joule,
Please address the following issues I have had after filing for the FRF Scholarship.
I submitted my application in person in the first week of December, Nina was not in at the time so I left it with Tula. I followed up with voice mail to Nina requesting a call from her if she needed anything else. I did not hear from her so I left messages (three) with her after confirming that she was at work each day I called. I went to the offices to see if she was in, she was not. I spoke with Tula and she told me the scholarship committee would convene on the 15th of Jan. I tried again leaving a message with both Nina and Tula after the 15th. Not ONCE did Nina or Tula return my calls. I called and spoke with Kenny Gallahorn on the 7th of (February,) he stated that my application was denied due to no transcripts and registration form from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. I provided my registration and acceptance letter from Le Cordon Bleu and my high school transcripts with the app. I applied for and received scholarships from the Arctic Education Foundation, Ukpeagvik Inupiat Corporation, FAFSA (PELL), Teck Alaska Inc, Kotzebue IRA and the Maniilaq Association with the same paperwork submitted to each. I find it distressing that there was a great lack of communication on the Borough staff's part in processing my application. Is this what can be expected by Borough residents for help with education funding?
Respectfully Yours,
Carl D Jennings
To The NWAB Staff,
Is this what I can expect, a total disregard to my concerns. Do I need to submit this to The Arctic Sounder and ADN to get any attention? A complete lack of response on every ones part to my treatment as a Borough resident shows your lack of professionalism. I am appalled that no one even tried to contact me about the issues brought to your attention.
