NWABSD to showcase middle school athletes this weekend

Younger athletes will get their chance to shine this weekend when the Northwest Arctic Borough School District hosts its boys' and girls' middle school basketball tournaments, and its co-ed championships.

A total of six teams will be competing in the girls' middle school tournament in Kiana. Among those vying for the girls' bragging rights will be squads from Noatak, Kiana, Noorvik, Shungnak, Selawik and Buckland.

Buckland will host the middle school boys' tournament, starting on Friday. Set to compete in the tourney are teams from Noatak, Kiana, Noorvik, Shungnak and Buckland

The 2013 NWABSD MS Coed Championships will be staged in Selawik Teams set to compete in the event are Deering, Kivalina, Kobuk and Selawik.

All three tournaments are scheduled to get under way on Friday, Feb. 22 and continue through Saturday, Feb. 23.
