A hearing on George Ahmaogak's contest of the recent election for North Slope Borough mayor will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the borough assembly room.

Ahmaogak filed an official notice of election contest on Nov. 15, citing what he said were numerous grounds. The candidate, who lost the election to Charlotte Brower by 62 votes, said there were irregularities in ballot counting and recording discrepancies, missing ballots and other inconsistencies.

The borough assembly appointed Dennis E. "Skip" Cook from the law firm Cook, Shuhmann and Groseclose to investigate the claims.

Ahmaogak, who served as borough mayor for five terms prior to taking a position with the Shell Oil Co., ran on a campaign of unity, but his campaign was dented in its last weeks by the indictment of his wife on embezzlement charges.
