Dodd Toryn Dodd, 12, recently went to Washington, D.C., for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference. The conference is aimed at fostering leadership in youth through focusing on figures in American history and social advocacy. Dodd traveled to sites such as Harpers Ferry, the national historical monuments of D.C., including the Korean War Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Museum of American History. At each of these sites, students were asked to reflect on how leaders used their "voice" to take a stand and make a difference. Toryn, who is in sixth grade, represented Phenix City Intermediate School and the state of Alabama. Toryn's family is from Kiana, including mother Jacqueline Wells, grandmother Sophie Brodigan, grandfather Lynn Johnson and great-grandmother Elsie Hunnicutt. "We are very proud of her. She will be among other scholars from all around the nation," said Wells. Toryn is also a member of National Junior Beta Club at her school, Phenix City Intermediate School.
