Members of the all-tournament boys team get together. (CRAIG GEORGE, Alaska Newspapers) The Wainwright varsity girls and Barrow junior varsity boys won team titles at the ASRC/UIC Village Basketball Tournament, held Jan. 14-16 in Barrow. Wainwright beat the Barrow JV Lady Whalers No. 2 in the championship game. The winning team had three players make the all-tournament team, including Most Valuable Player Jo-Jo Nashookpuk. The other two were Rhoda Aguvluk and Ardyce Nayakik. On the boys side, the Barrow JV No. 1 team beat the Anaktuvuk Pass Wolves for the crown. The Whalers had a trio of players on the all-tournament, highlighted by MVP Edward Benson. The other two were Forrest Enlow and Jose Sanches.
