The Noatak boys and Noorvik girls staked claim to team championships at the 2010 Husky Shootout last week in Kotzebue.

Noatak defeated Koztebue 48-35 last Thursday, sparked by 11 points apiece from Ezera Adams and Charlie Burns. The Lynx beat Noorvik 57-45 on Friday with Anthony Ashby leading the way offensively with 16 points and dropped Kiana 67-20 to close out the tournament Saturday, behind a 16 point effort from Adams.

In the girls bracket, Noorvik defeated Kiana 46-22 on Thursday, topped Noatak 45-37 Friday and finished with a 40-23 win over Kotzebue on Saturday. Against Kotzebue, Jessica Williams was a force in the paint, knocking down a game-high 17 points. Trailing 20-14 at halftime, Kotzebue shot just 2-33 from the field in the second half.

Kotzebue girls coach Jake Stoops was impressed with Noorvik and said he expects big things from the Lady Bears in 2A this season.

"Noorvik is very solid," Stoops said. "Williams is the best post player we've seen this year, including a couple of 4A schools in Soldotna and Kenai. She has great footwork and is very active.

"A lot of credit also has to go to Erin Zibell. She is very poised, never gets ahead of herself, distributes well and can finish."
